History

The Judiciary was separated from the executive on 17th December, 2020 by the Governor of Meghalaya with the approval from Hon’ble High Court of Meghalaya. The district capital Baghmara, is also the location of the District & Sessions Court. The district is currently manned by District and Sessions Judge, Chief Judicial Magistrate and Judicial Magistrate First Class.

The District Legal Services Authority, Baghmara has been established under the aegis of the Meghalaya State Legal Service Authority. The Chief Judicial Magistrate is the Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, South Garo Hills. The DLSA plays a key role in making justice accessible to all, providing free and competent legal aid and helping citizens realize their rights.
